Organized by “BIOSELENA” – Foundation for Biological Agriculture in Bulgaria, from 6 to 10 June 2016 in Carlovo, was conducted training on cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAP`s). The training was conducted by representatives of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences – Dr. Ljuba Evstatieva, Institute for Roses and essential oils crops – Dr. Stanko Stanev, Anastasia Cholakova, Dr. Stoiloko Apostolov, Nikolay Tihov and Petar Kirov from Bioselena. Training gave a comprehensive overview of the situation in the sector of MAP`s cultivation in Bulgaria, MAP`s, policies and legislation that regulates the sector, role of science and education, the volume of production and export potential of the sector.
The first part of the training cover all important aspects and technologies of cultivation of MAP`s and the second part was visiting the production and processing facilities in the Bulgarian companies. The experience in practice has been proved in the companies for production and processing of MAP (cultivation, harvesting and drying, distillation), “Valentin Rusev” from Rozovo village, “Bioprograma” by village Bogdan, “Intermed” LTD from Manolovo. The group visited nursery for seeds and seedlings “Zaneta Staneva” in Chegranovo, licensed from institutions in Bulgaria.
The Institute of Roses and essential oil crops in Kazanlak was visited, and the “Museum of the Rose,” which shows the historical beginnings of production 200 years ago. The famous “rose oil” and traditional technologies for destilation were exhibited in museum and they show us how Bulgaria became the first country in the world with a protective product – brand rose oil.
